Borobudur is poetry in stone. A nice terraced structure rises on a small hill on a plateau flanked by two sets of volcanoes. It is a heavenly setting - home to this massive temple built in the 9th Century in central Java for Hindu/Buddhist devotees. This book explores the different aspects of history, architecture, sculpture and construction of the Borobudur complex. The analysis of bas-reliefs, history of construction is accompanied by beautiful photographs and scale drawings of the architecture and layout of the building. The architecture drawings and analysis of the multiple constructions based on successive archeological discoveries is top-notch. A really lovely find for a travel/architecture enthusiast.
