About the author

The American Orchid Society (AOS) is a horticultural society whose mission is to promote and support the passion for orchids through education, conservation, and research. It was founded in 1921. As of 2001 it was the largest special interest horticultural organization in the world.

The society publishes a monthly magazine, "Orchids, The Bulletin of the American Orchid Society." From 1932 to 1995, this title of the magazine was "American Orchid Society Bulletin." Volume 1, Issue 1 of The American Orchid Society Bulletin was published in June 1932.

The AOS also published a scientific journal, "Lindleyana: The Scientific Journal of the American Orchid Society," which ran from 1986 to 2002.

In addition, the AOS occasionally publishes orchid handbooks and reference works.
