Entitled an "atlas" but in reality more of a brief illustrated history of the ancient world. In fact, there are only 7 maps of the Greek period and 5 for the Roman, none of them very large or easy to read. As for the photos, there are over 230 black and white illustrations of ruins, art work, aerial views, etc.
For a brief history, it manages to hit all the high points and could be a useful resource for someone with an interest in but no prior knowledge of antiquity. For those with a background, it would be a nice-to-have but hardly essential work.
