Gulls of Europe@@ Asia and North America
The standard text on the identification of the northern hemisphere's gulls, this book covers the plumage variation through age and subspecies of all 80 species in the region. With exhaustive coverage, detailed maps, and superb plates and photos, this book remains the definitive work on these birds, which represent the trickiest of all ID challenges.

Some of the species' accounts are getting a bit dated (i.e. the L. canus complex) and the separation of the Chroicocephalus genus from Larus isn't reflected but this is still a comprehensive work I reference often and wouldn't be without.
For anyone just starting out with gulls I'd rather recommend Gulls of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East:
An Identification Guide and Gulls Simplified: A Comparative Approach to Identification.
Gulls of the World: A Photographic Guide falls somewhere in the middle between this book and the two just mentioned in terms of complexity and coverage.
Additionally, gull-research.org is an excellent source of information too, albeit somewhat dated in terms of design and ease of use.
