A reprint of the Chicago Tribune's contemporary 1923 volume celebrating their high-profile international competition to design a new headquarters building. The book comprises the designs submitted by hundreds of entrants and a range of related materials including the original brief. For the most part American architects who submitted adhered rigidly to the brief, but many of the European submissions—particularly from lesser-known regional architects—defied it entirely and produced wild, adventurous and in some cases fantastical designs.
