This is a great resource for teaching kindergarten word study and phonics. The book provides word study lessons and resources that can be used throughout the year. The book breaks activities up based on the skill they are studying. For example there are sections for rhyming words, syllables etc. This is a great resources for teachers who are looking for ideas on teaching phonics and word study in their classroom. It is also a great resource for teachers looking for a progression of how to teach word study in the kindergarten classroom. It outlines what students should typically be doing at the beginning, middle and end of the year. Although it provides a progression it is important to remember and use the book as a resource for the level and skill that your individual students are at.
This is an awesome book for teaching phonics! It has built in scaffolding for English-language Learners. As well as, ideas for utilizing all the modes of reading and writing like read-aloud, shared reading, interactive writing, independent writing, etc. It's neatly and cleanly organized, and even contains a month by month planning guide. The lessons are engaging and interesting and I've heard many teachers in the Battle Ground school district tell me that they enjoy teaching with this curriculum resource!
