Following the release of the third Dirty Harry movie, The Enforcer, in 1976, Clint Eastwood made it clear that he did not intend to make any more Dirty Harry movies. In 1981, Warner Books (the publishing arm of Warner Bros., which made the films) began publishing a number of men's adventure series under its now-defunct "Men of Action" line. One such series features the further adventures of Inspector Harry Callahan. The books, written primarily by Ric Meyers and Leslie Alan Horvitz, appeared under the house name Dane Hartman. The series was brought to an end when Eastwood decided to direct, produce, and star in a fourth Dirty Harry movie, Sudden Impact, which was released in December 1983.

Imagine The New York Ripper meets Cruising. Insanely ultra-violent trash epic is all kinds of wrong — it’s casually racist, sexist, and homophobic throughout — but as an absurd time capsule of psychotic slasher violence, it’s an undeniable thrill ride, with Harry spending most of the book somersaulting over moving cars and literally blowing people’s heads off with his magnum.

Its a good DH. His stories don't really hide who done it, but how to catch and for him bring them to the morgue. Still as always language is period. Series seems hooked on violent sex. Hope it does not continue in last 3 books.

Walking home late at night in San Francisco a lady attacked, choked, a military shovel caves her face in, bones, cartilage, smashed to mush. Bodies discovered in a makeshift graveyard, decomposed, various states, the latest victim fresh and dripping. Harry uses words like "do you feel lucky?", before unleashing his trusty magnum into the brain ripping the insides out. Not a strong one in this series.
