Breakpoint: A True Account of Brainwashing and the Greater Power of the Gospel

Rate this book
In 1951 the communist government of Czechoslovakia sent a young medical doctor to prison for refusing to repudiate his faith. There he experienced solitary confinement, brainwashing and torture for seven years. Since he was trained in psychology, Dr. Krcmery was able to recognize the strategies used against him. Ultimately, what saved him from total physical and mental collapse was the Gospel of John which he had memorized before imprisonment and then turned to again and again. In a supreme act of generosity Silvester Krcmery has opted to recall the horrors of that time in order to give us this singular account of the scientific and spiritual basis of brainwashing.

Although this is a catholic book I think it will apply any believing person facing a totalitarian regime.
A faith is believed to protect against brainwashing as the believer has a hope and a peace somewhere else than in a corrupt sick system of totalitarianism.
Reading and memorizing Scripture has never been more important than now.

It is interesting to read about a person who was able to keep their faith in Christ through the hardship of prison in Czechoslovak. He was in prison for his faith. Well documented time in prison.

I look forward to meeting Dr. Krcmery in heaven. He has inspired me more than ever to commit scripture to memory and I will think of those like him when in the Great Litany we pray for “the captives and for their salvation.”
