I own several photography books by Michael Freeman and consider him a trusted source of accurate usable information. As I revisit my B&W film days of 50 years ago, I looked for a comprehensive discussion of converting digital images properly. I found that info throughout this book. To my delight, Freeman also adds significant historical context which helped to validate my memories of those early B&W film experiences and my decision process. Noteworthy is extensive coverage of the limits and inadequacy of “automatic” B&W conversion available when this book was written (circa 2012). I own some great software for post-processing but expect all references in this book to make improvements on the auto-B&W results will be helpful to fine tune my results. Excellent discussion and examples in the book for what needs adjusting, why you decide to adjust, and one or more techniques to make your adjustments.
Livre super bien fait, pédagogique. Bon pour moi qui fait encore de l’argentique, le plus simple est de continuer sur du film. Car fondamentalement, ce livre nous explique comment avoir des effets des films b&n d’origine.
Many of the aspects gave me a clue to developing my own process in making photos go BW. This book is an excellent starting point if you're familiar with regular editing but don't know how to make solid BW photos.
