Throughout his nearly fifty years as an Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, President Thomas S. Monson has presented countless messages of wisdom, inspiration, and doctrinal insight. He is perhaps best known for his gift of weaving true accounts into his addresses, bringing gospel principles to life through the enlightening experiences of individuals he has met or heard of in his ministry.
A Prophet's Voice brings together more than fifty of these classic addresses, including all the major general conference sermons President Monson has given since becoming the sixteenth President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Filled with warmth and reflection, these messages demonstrate the worth of every soul and the power of personal examples in our lives.
President Monson finds lessons in all kinds of everyday experiences, and he is known and loved for sharing those lessons in a way that reaches the hearts of his listeners. This landmark collection of his greatest messages will be a treasured addition to any gospel library.
Thomas S. Monson served as the 16th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (often called the "Mormon Church" or "LDS Church") from 2008 to his death in 2018. Before his time as President, he had served as a Counselor in the First Presidency of the Church since 1985. He was ordained an Apostle and called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1963 at the unusually young age of 36.
Monson was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. After serving in the US Navy and earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah, he married Frances Johnson and they had three children. Monson worked in the local news publishing industry until church service became a full-time occupation.
This book will touch your heart! Full of past talks and thoughts from President Thomas S. Monson... It reveals President Monson's feelings about forgiving others, forgiving oneself, and drawing closer to the Savior through service. Reading this book is like watching Conference where President Monson is the only speaker. Powerful insight as the Spirit permeates its pages.
How wonderful to have so many of President Monson's words together. There are conference addresses since April of 2008 and then the rest are firesides and other times he has spoken. Many are to young men and women. The conference addresses are dated, but there are no dates or places for the other talks. That would have been interesting to know.
This is a compilation of some of President Monson's talks. I read a couple of talks a day over the last month or so and loved the examples and quotes throughout that urge me to serve others--not necessarily in big grandiose gestures but in everyday niceties.
Fantastic! It's inspiring and uplifting--definitely a book I'd like to own. One of the lifestyle changes I made from reading it is adopting the habit at dinner of asking everyone at the table what he did for someone else today. It has helped our family be more consciously service oriented. That came from his talk "What Have I Done for Someone Today?" He referenced Dr. McConnell, the man who developed Tylenol. That's what his father asked the family every night at dinner and it inspired him to become a doctor and help people.
On the last page from his talk "Be A Light to the World" he says:
"Our opportunities to shine are limitless. They surround us each day, in whatever circumstance we find ourselves. As we follow the example of the Savior, ours will be the opportunity to be a light, as it were, in the lives of those around us--whether they be our own family members, our coworkers, mere acquaintances, or total strangers."
It was the perfect note to end the book on since it's the Christmas season and I've been participating in the #lighttheworld campaign found on mormon.org.
Absolutely fantastic. It was so good to go back and re-read these talks, many of which I've read before or heard when they were first given. Highly recommended.
