This is a delightful collection of lightning rods to contemplate for one's growth & refreshment.

My only complaint is that Zona does not identify the culture or even geographic area of Africa each proverb is from. He did that with his collection of Native American proverbs, so I had hoped he would do the same here.

A few favorites among many:

A book is like a garden carried in the pocket.

No one is without knowledge except him who asks no questions.

Not until we have fallen do we know how to rearrange our burden.

Let your love be like a misty rain; gentle in coming but flooding the river.

If nothing has ever done you any harm, you will never have foresight.

Cleverness eats its owner.

To ask well is to know much.
