In book 3 of the series, Lily asks her mommy why she doesn't have baby number two or three. Lily listens as her mommy explains that sometimes being an only child is a gift and why her parents chose to have Only Lily . In Lily Learns, Lily is introduced to a place called school. Starting preschool can be exhilarating and scary at the same time, but parents and children can take it day by day together to facilitate a lifelong love of learning.
Lily's Little Life Lessons Book 3 by Rebecca Perlman Coniglio features two stories Only Lily and Lily Learns. Adorable Lily teaches young readers important lessons about some of the challenges children face in their young lives. The rhyming text and vibrant illustrations engage readers and give them comfort as Lily confronts her struggles and learns to overcome them.
In Only Lily, Lily asks her mom "why she didn't want baby number two or three?" Lily's mom begins to explain all the special things they get to do together like getting manicures, dancing, and just having fun. She also tells Lily that "All my love is for you. I don't have to divide my heart in two. That is a lovely thing to do, but mine beats only for you." Lily also learns that she doesn't have to feel blue because she has many friends that can come and play and no little brother to get in the way.
As an only child myself, Only Lily holds a special place in my heart. As a child I had many of the same questions as Lily. The story addresses these concerns and leaves Lily feeling happy and loved instead of lonely.
In Lily Learns Lily is starting school and is feeling afraid as she is faced with the unknown expectations in her new surroundings. Lily wonders if her teacher will be nice and how things will go with the other children in her class. Lily becomes sad and misses her mom, but just as she is about to give up on the "school thing" something unexpected happens to brighten Lily's day. Soon Lily is enjoying school and all the exciting activities she is discovering.
Lily Learns teaches young readers to believe in themselves and try new things even if they seem hard in the beginning. Overcoming challenges makes children feel good about themselves just as Lily does.
I highly recommend picking up Lily's Little Life Lessons Book 3 and if you haven't read Book 1 and Book 2 pick up copies of them as well. Lily has a lot to teach children about life.
