The Irish Reaper

Rate this book
He murdered my fiancé in cold blood; right in front of me.

Those cold blue eyes made a silent demand that, if I didn’t keep my mouth shut, he’d put a matching bullet in my head, too.

He may as well have.

Because Finnegan O’Clery did one better and made a deal with my father to make me his wife.

It wasn’t out of love, respect, or sheer admiration that he decided to claim me as his own. It was so he could secretly plan to destroy and kill my whole family and gain my new status of becoming the Kincaid clan’s new heir.

There’s no way I’ll help him. Even if my father and brother pawned me off without a care for my well-being to this dark shadow who only gets off by terrorizing me.

Finnegan can try to scare and threaten all he wants, but I’m never going to budge. In fact, I’m devising my own plan to be his destruction one way or another.

I promised it in my wedding vows, after all.

The Kincaid clan will fall by hand.

Not only are they a waste of space, but they’ve grown too ballsy in how they operate around our territory.

And when they decide to team up with the Italians, I’m only too eager to kill their heir that will tie both clans together.

Then my eyes fell on her.

Beautiful red hair and exquisite green eyes, she was timid, terrified, and not even worth worrying about when I put a bullet in her Italian fiancé, Enzo Bianch. She was my only witness and, soon, my wife.

Haven Kincaid was the perfect way inside to gain her family’s trust and finally get rid of them all. But my wife wasn’t so willing to give me what I wanted. Her loyalty to a band of Irish mafia wannabes was only going to tempt my temper and do ungodly things to her body.

But I’m starting to want Haven for my own. And I’ll even kill her to make sure she’s mine forever.

This book was so not for me. This was a random pick up read that I decided to grab up but in this one is its a very brutal dark romance and one that was a bit too dark for me. Not sure if I will read the companion novel, I might just so I know what happens here, but wasn't impressed with this one. The largest turn off was the way in which they treat each other. They literally are physically abusive to each other and I am talked BAD!! Like stabbing with knives and poisoning haha Its just a bit too dark for my enjoyment. I don't need my mafia to be this dark. If you like the really dark stuff, then it might be your cup of tea, but wasn't quite for me even though it was one heck of a page turner.

After Finn disposes of Haven's Italian fiancee he gives her a silent warning. Her marriage was suppose to unite the Italians and the Kincaids.
Her father and brother take their aggression out on her due to what happened to her fiancee. Weeks later she is to be married off to the O'Clery clan who are known to be cruel and ruthless.
Finn is the 'enforcer' who hides in the shadows and doesn't speak much. Haven is somewhat submissive when it comes to her family. When she realizes that she is suppose to marry Finn all bets are off. She finds her voice and rebellious side which only turns Finn on more. The hate relationship is explosive.
The cliffy floored me.
This is going to be one hot series!

The Irish Reaper by Rowena Fox is the First book in the Haven Kincaid and Finnegan O'Clery 'Finn' Finn is a enforcer who has killed Enzo Bianch and Italian mafia man making a marriage connection with the Kincaid. Haven didn't want the marriage that her father and brother forced upon her so there was no loss in his death. But now they are forcing her to marry Finn the man that killed him and who she knows is out to destroy her family. Finn is a silent and deadly man who does think to destroy the family from the inside. But he is strongly drawn to Haven. This is a dark romance that does end with a cliffhanger setting us up for the next installment.

Haven doesn’t stand a chance when it comes to her family. She is a pawn and nothing more. Her brother is pure evil. When her arranged fiancé is killed, she is pawned off on another. Finn doesn’t want a wife but the power that come with her name he will gladly take. Excellent writing. I can’t wait to see where this author takes us.

This was an incredibly exciting story to follow, with one hell of a cliffhanger. I stayed perched on the edge of my seat given all of the action along with the twists and turns. I loved how strong and fiesty Haven became but a certain degree of growth needs to take place before I'll be on board for Finn. Rowena Fox was a new author for me and I'm a wholehearted fan. It is a very dark romance, so please educate yourself if triggers are an issue for you. It's perfect for mafia addicts like myself. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

I’m invested

I can hardly contain how invested I am in this story! Omg the cliffhanger is brutal and I hope I don’t have to wait much longer for book two!!!

Finn is more than meets the eye and I need more of him asap. Haven is fresh, feisty, and a perfect match. I am excitedly waiting to see what happens next!

2.5 rounded up.

I am conflicted because this story has SO much potential and it's also a new author, so I don't want to be brutal but I also don't think I'd be doing this author a service if I wasn't honest.

I'm giving this 2.5 rounded up to 3 only because it's a debut and I don't generally like dragging down ratings but really it's a 2 max and that's only because I finished it.

There were times I almost DNF, like when I came across the millionth incorrect word usage (I'm not referring to the Irish lingo) sentences that made no sense or were written incorrectly to the point where the author actually said the opposite of what she meant to.

The best way to describe my feelings is that it was like driving past an accident. You want to see how things turn out but kept getting hit by something bad - not content, but the writing.

Things were said, there were a couple of paragraphs of inner monologue, then it was repeated again but in the way that suggested that the author forgot it had ever been said.

Honestly, this book wasn't edited and I don't even think it saw a beta reader because these things could've been picked up and made this book so much better.

I don't have issues with any of the things that happened, FYI, I love dark books so this rating isn't about subject matter, it's about execution.

I also don't understand this obsession with doing a novella and then making a second story. This book would've been better if it were longer and properly developed. The complexity of lust and hate properly explored. Instead, we get a rushed half story, a cliffy then a second short story.

This doesn't do the world the author has created or her characters any justice.

Finn has the capacity to be the ultimate dark romance book boyfriend, delving deep into his mind would be delicious, but it just isn't delivered.

I think with the right people advising, supporting and editing, this story could be great. I think that's the only reason for the high ratings because the editing was straight up disappointing and distracting.

First I will start by saying it was really hard for me to rate this book.
I love mafia stories. The cover and the blurb gripped my attention and I really want to read the book.
Full disclosure:
An arc of The Irish Reaper was generously provided to me by Ms. Fox and Enticing Journey.
And I thank them greatly. But I wasn’t aware that I got an unedited version. Absolutely no editing at all. So it made reading and trying to get into the story very difficult. I completely and absolutely understand arcs are not always the final version because more editing is done. But I’ve never gotten a completely unedited one either.
So I’m trying to be fair with the author and potential readers. I was told the final version is edited and cleaned up. I was also asked if I’d like the newer version. But unfortunately time wasn’t on my side to reread the final draft.
So onto the story I love a good enemies to lovers just as much as mafia.
But with Haven and Finn all I felt was their hatred. And they absolutely did hate each other.
Which is fine. But there was no spark between them either.
That little bit of magic or that little bit of sparkle just wasn’t present.
I don’t think there was even passion, may be a tiny amount of lust, but the hatred overrode even that.
Finn is the enforcer, the assassin of his crime family. He’s excellent at taking out his and his family’s enemies. He’s sexy and tattooed and a bad boy to the bone.
Haven is a mafia princess supposedly. But her family uses her as a pawn to further their power and control. I loved how she was the protector to her younger sister.
I liked each of them as individuals. Each one of them is vital to their families for one reason or another.
But as a couple I couldn’t connect with them. I couldn’t feel any kind of connection or chemistry between them at all.
And that cliffhanger sure was stunning.

4 1/2 Stars to be clear!!

Wow I am not sure exactly what I was expecting with this book but I devoured it in one sitting.
Two mafia families who want to own it all. A feud as old as time. Of course deals are made at the expense of the females in the families. In this case it’s Haven. Thanks to her father and older brother, she is now engaged to a horrible man, Enzo, who she watches get murdered before her very eyes. So now her family is scrambling to make sure blame for the murder doesn’t come back on them. So in a matter of a few days she is betrothed again, only to her shock it’s to the very man who murdered Enzo - Finnegan O’Clery, not to mention her family has been at odds with the O’Clery’s for years.

The chemistry between Finn and Haven is strained but there. It’s a battle of wills with vows to kill one another. I hate that this ended on a cliffie because I can’t wait to see what happens next. Who will win this battle of strong wills or will tragedy strike? What’s in store for Haven and Finn?

2 Thumbs Up and 4.5 stars (it would be a 5 star but I can’t stand cliffie endings - but that’s a me thing and doesn’t take away from my enjoyment of the storyline)

Haven came face to face with Finn when he murdered her fiance in front of her, and he definitely made an impression when he threatened her if she talked. This poor girl, she didn't want to be part of this life so she definitely didn't want to be forced to marry where her family told her to, so she didn't want to marry that fiance, however, after that moment, it got worse. Turns out her family decided she would marry Finn, and let me tell you, he wasn't even hiding his brutality when it came to her, and I'm not going to lie, I seriously got very upset with some of his actions towards her because it was just awful. He really thought she would be easy to make her cower but he didn't count on her Irish stubbornness, or the fact that death wasn't as scary as staying married to him so she put him through the paces which had me cheering out loud. They did have the sparks flying, but that didn't mean that she would pardon his actions which I really appreciated at the end of the day. It leads to a cliffhanger ending but Book 2 isn't far behind thankfully so the wait wasn't too bad. Anyway, I cannot wait for more by this author, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

The Irish Reaper is the first book I have read by Rowena Fox. I enjoyed the start of this series. The book is a dark mafia romance and left off on a cliffhanger. The characters the author has so beautifully written were complex and had such crazy angst. The world she created was dark and vivid in detail. This book had my heart breaking for Haven and swooning for Finn. They had such amazing chemistry throughout this book. I couldn't put it down and almost cried when I got to the cliffhanger.

Haven was strong, stubborn, and loyal to her sister. I loved her determination and wit. I loved how she didn't give up but wanted to throw my e-reader a few times at her stubbornness. Finn was dark and broody. He was loyal to his family. I loved his dark side in this book. He always got what he wanted. I was all over the place with my feelings for both of the characters. I loved the angst both characters felt and the push and pull they had throughout this book. My heart was breaking and soaring for both characters.

I am so ready to see what the Irish Reaper brings next.- Brooke

The story had potential, I like it until I didn’t . There were a ton of grammatical errors. The fmc mentions Finn has blue eyes and then in another scene he has green eyes.. which is it girl. She’s shows to be a weak mafia princess then all of a sudden gains shooting skills and learns to verbally and physically fight back. Finn seems like a quiet broody man only for him to lowkey take advantage of her the way he found Enzo doing to her in the beginning. The first time they get intimate and he takes her by a window he was about to throw her off of?! Also she said no like 3 times and just bc she had a O doesn’t mean she didn’t say No initially . Also the fact that they literally hate eachother the entire book. Someone wrote in their reviews that reading this is like seeing a car crash and not being able to not look, which is why I even managed to finish reading this train wreck lol

Amateur. The writing is poor quality, the grammar is incorrect, with wrong words used in almost every sentence. Sentences aren't complete, with full stops breaking them up where they shouldn't. The characters did not appeal to me, guess because the writing wasn't good enough to make me like them. I found this really boring to read, the author just has the heroine thinking on repeat "us poor women, our bad male family members, they use us females to gain their kingdoms, they use us females as pawns, they use us women to get what they want and they don't care what happens to us", on replay. It's really boring, depressing and irritanting. Didn't finish this, and goes without saying, I won't be reading the next part.

This is Finnegan and Haven’s story. Haven is a witness to the murder of her horrid fiancé, and as her family do not want the blame to fall on their shoulders, they arrange another marriage for her with Finn, the man, the man who is out for vengeance. This is a well written action packed, emotional roller coaster, with chemistry, family, loyalty, vengeance, humor, witty banter, and trust, which leads to an entertaining, unpredictable, tragic, twisted, and steamy dark romance. This story ends in a cliffhanger, and I look forward to reading more about this couple.
I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend.

what even was that

This girl literally goes from one abusive household to the next where there was dubcon sex at best and he stabs her in the leg. There is no redeeming this MMC because now that she has escaped his house she is trapped in with her brother again who I have zero clue as to why she shows him any loyalty when he is literally worse to her than the MMC. Her brother punches her, hits her and then is going to sell her off again?? Nothing about that ending made me want to read book 2.
