Rockingham County is the oldest settled region of New Hampshire. Incorporated as one of five original counties in the state in 1771, its history dates back to 1623 when David Thomson and a small group of colonists established a settlement at Pannaway along the coast of present-day Rye. From New Castle, where the Piscataqua River meets the Atlantic, to Northwood near the edge of the Lakes Region, this fascinating collection includes many rare and previously unpublished photographs and postcards which document over a century of change.
