Published in 1992, 'Supermarine Attacker, Swift and Scimitar' is number 7 in the 'Postwar Military Aircraft series by publishers Ian Allan and sets out to give a brief coverage of all of the postwar jet fighter projects originated by Supermarine, whilst concentrating on the three named in the title because they were the only ones to achieve operational service. As they arose in a time of massive technological change in aircraft design, they all seemed to succumb to the high risk of major design flaws, and were not built in huge numbers. Perhaps because of this, they just do not get the same attention in books as types like for example the Hawker Hunter or the BAC Lightning, and so this fine book is most welcome. The potted history is supported by about 160 well captioned photos and many three view line drawings of types both proposed and actual. In my copy the thick glossy paper on which the book is printed brings out the detail in the well selected photos, most of which have been reproduced to a decent size as well. A fine book.
