In it, voice becomes camera to reveal the smoky world of Diego Rivera's Mexico with its erotic and political tensions brightly drawn as background for a dance macabre involving, among others, Leon Trotsky, Rivera, the actress Paulette Goddard, Surrealist kingpin Andre Breton, and Rivera's strange and beautiful wife, Frida Kahlo. The lens of Tremblay's attention follows these characters as they circle inside their mortal questions, failings, and desires, never quite touching or saying as they intend, but always somehow working toward an integration of the personal, political, and esthetic obsessions that drive them on.

This is an interesting book, which has been meticulously researched. It is more about Trotsky and Diego Rivera than Frida Kahlo, however.
