Plus Style is a slightly long but informative read that covers measuring, style, color, proportions, underclothes, and more. There were a lot of things that were out of date, but it was still interesting to see the difference between the style of today and that of when this book was published in 1996. Although some of the information was outdated, there was still advice that holds true even today. For example, how certain lines, shapes, or color combinations can move the eye towards a particular direction. I enjoyed this book.

This book was library borrowed.

I am pear body type:

Your hips and thighs are wider than your shoulders and bust; your curyvy lowerhips and rear the the biggest part of your body. Yourwaist is at least 8 inches smaller thanyour hips, and your bust and shoulders may be on the smaller side. Your legs are average to large in size.

To flatter your shape, you need to emphasize your midriff and foucs attention above the waist with color, line, and detail (and shoulder pads, of course!). Darker colors and softly pleated, flowing or draped skirts will help to deemphasize your hips, thighs, and rear. Belts help to define your waist. The Pear can wear print and pattern most effectively above the waist, along with light, bright colors that attract the eye. Softly pleated or flat-front pants work foryou. You can wear long, softer overblouses, sweaters, and shirts - but they work best open over a belted or tucked-in top.

good ideas for pear figure:
shoulder pads.
Scarf around shoulders
set-in waists and belts'separates

bad ideas
short or tight skirts

light, bright colors on the bottom; dark colors on the top
raglan or dolman sleeves
flat shoes

lots of other ideas in book... but too much for me to take in now... want to take out again later.

I am not plus size, but I find the design challenges involved interesting and am always curious why there is not better plus clothing. The book had some good ideas, especially about figuring out your specific body type with measurements, but also gave some (in my opinion) bad advice. All in all, I'd recommend it if this sort of thing interests you.
