This is a "book to have" and a masterpiece of author Mark Bando.
Very well written, with a lot of personal stories and rare pictures it tells the story of the breakout from Normandy. After the initial success of conquering a beachhead, the advance of the Allies was halted for many weeks.
The battle(s) Bando describes were as decisive as the D-Day landings itself, opening up France to the very eager tank-units commanded by Patton.
Typical for Bando is the wealth of detailled personal stories from American and German participants alike.

Be aware that while the current edition is becoming a collectible at prices starting € 80, a new edition from Heimdal is due summer 2013, and Mark Bando has promised that this will be an even richer book whith 8 maps and a number of never before published pictures.
I think that in the end I will want to have them both. . .
