PLEASE Free subscriptions are NOT included with the e-book edition of this title.
This series of books is the gold standard for writers looking to get their works into the market, whichever market that might be. Being one who is currently focusing on short stories and other fiction, I picked up this year's edition. I was pleasantly surprised to learn the purchase of this book also came with a one year subscription to WritersMarket.COM, which was certainly a pleasant bonus.
The book starts with almost 100 pages of advice: crafting plots, characters, conflict, marketing, self-publishing, etc. It's contents like those that make this so much more than just a list of agents and markets.
Anyone interested in writing short stories or novels this year has to pick up a copy of this book. Period.
The thing I discovered about this book is that it is aimed towards writers that have never gone through a creative writing course or done anything of the like. Most of what they cover in the articles are all very simple writing mistakes that, in my experience, just beginning writers make. The listings they have in the back, however, are immensely helpful.
Every year I buy a copy, diligently marking all the submissions I'll be making. Some years, those submissions never materialize. Other years I get to add to my rejection letter file. Regardless, this book is a writer's tome of deep magic. It works even when it is just held and pondered over. This book is an act of unrepentant hope.
Good introduction to the market, with good, current articles on various areas of the freelance industry as it pertains to the novel & short story market.
