A jazzy spin on the tale of three little pigs, but only one is in this story about a little Black Pig ,who wanted to play his trumpet to the stars. Seeking to live his dream, he leaves home, but is pursued by a lone White Wolf who is determined to not only eat the Pig, but to play his trumpet. The chase begins, but in the end compromises are made, and things work out for the best. This story was inspired by the legendary career of Motown jazz trumpeter Gil Askey.

This is a beguiling take on the traditional story of The Three Little Pigs. Gilbert Alexander Pig is a peace loving little black pig who lives an idyllic life, minding his own business, just hanging around fishing by day and playing his trumpet at night. Life is uncomplicated and good until the big white wolf comes along and, wanting what Gilbert has, he tries to bully the non-violent, fish-eating, trumpet-playing pig. Gilbert does not react the way a wolf might expect a pig to react.

Inspired by the legendary career of Texan jazz trumpet player, Gil Askey, the story suggests a different way to resolve personal conflicts and celebrates the love of music. Children will find the story intriguing and entertaining. David Cox's water colour illustrations add to the fun mood. JB :-)

Nice story about what happens when the little pig a notion to talk to the wolf. He's a reflective pig too, all he wants to do is play his trumpet to the stars at night.
