Seventy million single adults make up the largest minority in the United States--almost 40% of the adult population. With these figures in mind, the need for single adult groups should go without saying. But the need for single adult ministry in our churches is often overlooked. Now, however, Don Davidson provides a thorough, practical guide to single adult ministry and how to establish an effective one in your church. Davidson outlines the necessary steps for creating a unique singles group for new college grads, career people, widowed or divorced persons. Now in tradepaper from Don Davidson!
This book is thorough and informative. I knocked it a bit because I disagree with some of the authors doctrinal stances. The books is also a bit dated and there is very little in it that I felt was groundbreaking. Still, it is a good book for understanding some of the foundations that need to be in place for a singles ministry, and a good source of simple ideas for activities, leadership recruiting, etc. In short, it is thorough, not cutting edge. The main concept I took away was simply having a multi-pronged approach to singles ministry. Meaning, not event should be a social event, but some should; not everything should be spiritual, but some should. Blending the social (fellowship), outreach (evangelistic), spiritual (study and worship), support and service (ministry/service) into a singles ministry helps create balance, and thus an enduring ministry that works toward making disciples. That was my favorite takeaway from this book.
