Susan Lillian "Sue" Townsend was a British novelist, best known as the author of the Adrian Mole series of books. Her writing tended to combine comedy with social commentary, though she has written purely dramatic works as well. She suffered from diabetes for many years, as a result of which she was registered blind in 2001, and had woven this theme into her work.
"Womberang" by Sue Townsend This play was a great laugh with vibrant characters, especially the female characters. It managed to make comments on the downfalls of our healthcare system whilst still being human and fun. This would be a great play for a strong female cast to take on somewhere like the fringe, due to its style, one-room setting and length.
Read Womberang and was impressed, a few years later caught an am-dram performance and by that point was a mother so picked up a lot more on the nuances - Memorable and full of promise.
