I loved it. Loved the story and the language! We read Silas Marner in Grade 10 English class many years ago. I was an avid reader from an early age, so I had read quite a few classics, but Silas Marner was the first one I was asked to read for school. We read it as a class, and many of the students had trouble with the archaic expressions and the syntax, so it was slow going. I didn't find the language daunting, but it was helpful to have a teacher add some historical context. e.g. Why would two towns, not far apart, have very few residents visiting between them? Answer: There was a dense forest between them, and this was dangerous for travelers because highwaymen stopped coaches and stole money and valuables from the passengers. I read Silas Marner again, many years later, and enjoyed it even more.
