One of the great joys of growing up was holding a vinyl album, gently balancing it to not touch the grooves as you put it on the turntable, and sitting back with the album cover and liner notes and actually focusing on the complete musical experience. For young people today growing up on iPhones and YouTube videos, that's something only a very few are experiencing. Just looking at the cover could take minutes, cumulative hours; studying the liner notes led you to new music by beginning to follow musicians, songwriters, influences, and the influenced.
The jazz albums of the 1950s-60s had their own vibe. You could tell something about them through the art on the covers. I had this book hidden away among some albums. Looking through it again brings back feelings of nostalgia, conjures up long-forgotten memories of sitting around on lazy, rainy afternoons doing nothing but changing discs, and an understanding of one more thing that made these albums so special. Definitely a book worth seeking out if you love album art.
