William Henry Pyne & His Microcosm

Rate this book
Pyne, born in London in 1770, was an artist, illustrator, and writer whose productive years coincided with the "golden age" of English colored books and with both an agrarian and industrial revolution. This biography reviews Pyne's life, his contributions to water-color painting and the illustrated book, and the social and historical content of his work. The prints he published in or a Picturesque Delineation of the Arts, Agriculture, Manufactures, &c. of Great Britain all 121 of which are reproduced here constitute a close look at 18th-century rural England, with detailed observations of everyday occupations and activities before industrialization. Distributed by Books International. 8.5x12" Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
