The development of digital information space has created a new environment for the exchange of information, posing challenges for policy and resources developers. This volume, based on the 1998 UKOLN conference, seeks to address these issues in relation to the services of library and information providers. It asks how they will construct services which continue to provide resources to existing and new communities; how they will reach into the lives of a mobile and diverse user base; how they will support new patterns of learning and information use; and how they will build bridges with other service providers.
