This is another book reprinted in the G+D Vintage book collection. I enjoy reading these books from the past.

This is a simple tale of a family who lives in the city and has to move to the suburbs when their apartment building is sold and bought by a new man who doesn’t allow dogs. They love Archie, the family dog. They move to a lovely neighborhood and they are happy there, but there are no dogs around and Archie is bummed. Then, they are told the neighbors are on vacation and they have a huge mean dog that they are sure will eat Archie, so the family builds a fence. It’s the 50s so no need to worry, the big dog and Archie become fast friends.

I thought this wasn’t as good as some of the other books in this series like Mr. Wishing went Fishing or the Noisy Clock Shop, but it was worth reading.

Beginners and animal loves might enjoy.

Ooh, I like this one. Penguin Random House's Grosset & Dunlap Vintage imprint has been republishing children's books from the 1940s and 50s and recently chose this title for reissue.

A family living in an apartment with a puppy looks for a new house out of the city and discovers the neighbors at their new place has a bigger dog than their own.

It is a wonderful little story that has tension and release, tension and release, with everyone getting what they want in the end. Best of all, it is the perfect length for a bedtime story--"one short one before bed"--and although my category is ages 4-6, I think ages 3-5 is most appropriate.

Definitely consider this one for Christmas this year. It's a gem from days gone by, but actually not so distant in terms of how we live now.

Cute children's book from the 1950's. The version I have is also 1951, same publisher, although mine has a yellow cover and is from the "Nursery Treasure Books" collection. The illustrations are not as nice as other 1950's era children's books but that doesn't take away from the sweet ending.

All the babies that have been thru my home seem to love animals and I have an original book from 1951 of this so while I don't let them play with it, I do enjoy to read it to them. A true classic!

Cute picture book perfect for Boston terrier lovers. The mannerisms and energy of little Archie are so true to the breed and my own little girl.
