A Man Called Shiloh is the story of Dan Thompson, confederate soldier and his odyssey, trials and tribulations starting with the Civil War, and extending out to New Mexico territory. Most of the time he deals with one "nemesis" a former Union Major. The book was written by a friend of my father-in-laws, and I have read most of his other books. This is the type of book you would find in a gift shop along the Blue Ridge Parkway or a general store.
Pros: The story itself had enough action/drama, and kept it interesting with poor Dan Thompson changing his name to Dan Shiloh. The locations from Tennessee to Wisconsin, back to Alabama, then to Texas and New Mexico and even Mexico kept it well paced.
Cons: Editors failed with the author. Lots of repetitiveness with certain words. A good wordsmith would have made this a much better book. This book is written more at an 8th grade level unfortunately. At times the naivete of Dan would irritate me as he always fell for certain traps. You'd think he would learn.
This is 2.5 star book, rounded up because of familial relationship with in-laws, and his other books were better stories.
