In the hazy city of Salt Lake exists a group of teenage friends who call themselves the Salt Lake Buds. It’s the mid 90’s, and Gregory Hill and his friends suffer the oppression of the popular high school students. Gregory is secretly in love with his best friend and confidant Amber Mills. When he finally gets the courage to profess his love to her, it ends up being too late. Despite her feelings, she rejects him, and he is heartbroken. The following day she gets in an argument with her mom and step dad and is shipped to Arizona to live with her dad. Despite the despair of Amber rejecting him, he tries forgetting about his problems. He gets together with Joan, a sexy, flirty redhead. This creates an interesting love triangle as Amber suddenly shows interest in Greg. Amber also discovers a roadblock that changes everything. Greg and his friends encounter several obstacles in this coming of age story that transcends teenage life in the 90’s. This story defines the meaning of friendship The motto they follow, “whatever makes you happy,” is taken to a whole new level. This is the first book in a series that paints a picture of friendships, love, and trials that the Salt Lake Buds experience in their pursuit of happiness. This novel contains adult language and content.
Well first I must warn readers. Book has a heavy dose of cursing. Also the usage of alcohol, ciggs and weed are mentioned quite a bit.....basically a book reflecting the current generation.
A charector talks about writing an essay about the benefits of smoking. Author does not go into detail....lucky for him.. ha
Anywho the book drags on a bit. The book quickly grabbed my attention and had me reading til 3am font amd style plaued a big part in it. The romance was good but then we're taken into the lives of all the characters...about 7 or so. So yes the story drags on a bit. All interesting in their own way but it pulls you away from the main plot.
The author began takng shots at religion and God by having a lesbian charecter say the Bible was written by men (not by God) Bible was written by men inspired by God. In other words God told them what to write like an author would tell an editor. The girl some how interprets believing in the Bible as a religion. Again incorrect. Its a belief. The author does not defend The Bible very well as the lesbian went off on her girlfriends "religious " father. I don't know if it was lack of knowledge or just bias, but it was offensive. Later they pray for the health of a friend? What a contradiction.
Many grammatical errors and such but I shouldn't be one to talk.
Despite all the nagatives and things I hate.. It is a good book. I will read the second because I want tobknow what happens next.
