How to discuss the pain and evil of the Holocaust? There is no easy answer to explain why and how great evil is allowed to exist in the world. This picture book meant for children 9 years old and up sensitively details a grandfather’s experience as a Holocaust survivor in a conversation with his grandson. I found the analogy of weeds and grass for people who hurt and harm people and people who try to defend others an apt metaphor for trying to explain these difficult concepts to children.
