Adam Blade is the house name for the Working Partners Ltd. ghostwriters who write the Beast Quest and Sea Quest series.

Adam Blade is in his late twenties, and was born in Kent, England. His parents were both history teachers and amateur artists, and Adam grew up surrounded by his father’s paintings of historic English battles – which left a lifelong mark on his imagination. He was also fascinated by the ancient sword and shield that hung in his father’s office. Adam’s father said they were a Blade family heirloom.

As a boy, Adam would spend days imagining who could have first owned the sword and shield. Eventually, he created a character – Tom, the bravest boy warrior of them all. The idea for Beast Quest was born.

When Adam grew up and decided that he wanted to be a writer, he was stuck for ideas – until he remembered the old sword and shield, and the imaginary boy he had created when he was young. Adam decided to bring Tom fully to life so that readers could go on the kind of adventures that he always wanted to when he was that age… And still does, even though he’s grown up!

When he’s not writing Beast Quest books, Adam enjoys visiting museums and ancient battle sites. His main hobbies are fencing and football. He also spends a lot of time at home running around after his two exotic pets – a tarantula named Ziggy, and a capuchin monkey named Omar. These little rascals were the inspiration for two of the Beasts that Tom faces on his Quest – Arachnid and Claw.

Sadly, Adam does not have his own Fire-Dragon or Horse-Man. But he really wishes he did!

I like this book because I think it was very cool how Max got the next piece of the skull (I forgot the name). He dodged under Manak and smashed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think was cool how a different tribe helped Max to defeat Manak.

Animagus (fertig)

Fazit? Das Buch ist jetzt zwar nicht so gut, wie die anderen, aber auch nicht ganz schlecht. 2 von 5 Sterne.

Here comes the third book in the Sea Quest series - an underwater adventure for young and old, the work of the author collective, working under the pseudonym Adam Blade.

Max has already collected two pieces of Thallos' skull, defeating the fearsome eel Silda as well. Now, however, the path will take his aquabike to the deadly Forest of Souls, an underwater kelp forest that the Princess of Merryn claims is haunted. There, the two will find traces of an inquisitive and mysterious people, but also a threat that is far from ghostly, but quite real - the giant Manak stingray, whose tail hides a deadly poison...

Blade continues to entertain with this freshly-imagined series. The next book promises a fight with a shark, making it a must.

The Kiddo loves his Adam Blade books. My reactions have been mixed, but Manak has been my favorite so far. The Sea Quest (aka Deep Dive) world has a huge advantage over the medieval fantasy/mythological world of Beast Quest in that it is an original setting that forces the author to be more creative.

There is some great worldbuilding in this book, including the introduction of a third sentient species coexisting with the humans and the merryn.

The climactic battled with the title monster comes a bit early in the story, but the ending chapters do a nice job setting up the fourth and final volume in this series. All of the characters interact well, and the new characters we meet are interesting and engaging.

We will definitely be picking up the fourth volume in this series soon.

Third entry in the series sees another adventure and more of the same as the previous two, but again interesting enough and short enough to quickly read and enjoy.

Granted, I did not actually read this book, but it's because quite a few things irked me about it:

1.) I thought this book would be about a manta ray named Manak, but instead it's about two twerpy kids DEFEATING a manta ray named Manak. That's just false advertising; it should've been called "Max and Lia are Mean to Manta Rays".

2.) Turns out this is part of a greater series where these gremlins run around defeating ocean animals - many of which already have bad reputations and suffer greatly for it in real life (especially sharks and rays). Seems like more bad press around these vulnerable creatures isn't particularly necessary when humans kill hundreds of millions of them annually.*

3.) In a book like this (especially by Scholastic), I'd expect a section at the end dedicated to giving educational information about oceanlife, conservation efforts and tips, and resources for further research.

4.) Of the 20+ drawings, 3 were of a manta ray. Again, false advertising.

A continuation of the quest and although the end battle is much the same as the first two books in the series we are introduced to an interesting new species and learn a little more about the Merren. There is also hint that there is more to the Professor, intrigue gets you hooked. :-)
