Daniel Defoe is more than the author of Robinson Crusoe as Peter Earle reveals in this great book. I did not know that Defoe was a pioneer in economic journalism or that he wrote about London's poor people. I did not know that he wrote about marriage, education, child development, and social mobility. I especially like how he wrote about pirates and how the poor are more likely to die in a plague due to the lack of resources to escape it. Daniel Defoe is much more that Robinson Crusoe or Moll Flanders.
