It is considered a great privilege to be chosen as a "seer", one who can wander through Dreamspace; but Anna knows different. Ripped from her home, drugged and starved, she must work endlessly along with Thayus and Aisha, to prevent the worlds natural disasters, kidnappings and assasination plots. But there is a secret the Teachers have not shared, a secret that will change all their lives, and the lives of her family, forever.
I really wanted to like this book because I thought the concept could be very interesting/entertaining... if successfully executed. However, I was left disappointed. I haven't looked into the author but I am going to assume this was one of her first books. The writing just seemed a bit sloppy; the storyline was all over the place. Things sort of started coming together at the end, but not enough to save it for me. It almost felt like the idea for the book just came to the author, may I dare say, in a dream, and she just quickly wrote down all of her thoughts without really going back, editing out completely unneeded information (in the first couple chapters she talks about the main character's best friend that ended up ditching her--what did this have to do with ANYTHING?? Maybe it comes back in a later book?), and giving the book better flow. Also, another thing that drove me crazy was the bits of information she threw in from the main character's point of view from future knowledge. Things like 'I would later find out that what just happened meant this' and that kind of thing. Don't do that. Let the reader discover the truths later, along with the main character. Don't be lazy and answer large questions with a sentence saying 'oh, and I was later told this meant this' so that you don't have to take the time later to properly answer the questions you as the author put into the book. Also, having a full chapter dedicated to giving the background of a side character we see a couple times throughout the book was weird to me. Just seemed random and if the author just did a better job at character development and interactions between characters THAT would fill in the blanks for the reader why certain characters are the way they are.
I had originally given this book two stars, but as I was writing the review I became more and more frustrated with the book. Again, cool concept, poor execution. For the next book give the ideas to a ghost writer or something and let them do the work.
