Tomy and the Planet of Lies

Rate this book
The bestselling author of Chariots of the Gods presents his first novel.

Erich von Däniken claims to have never seen a UFO. But in the fall of 1987, on a desert ride, he experienced a close encounter of a very different kind. A being materialized before his eyes, and since the "thing" had no name, von Däniken called it "Tomy." This book is the story of Tomy. Some say that Tomy is a scientific impossibility. Yet Tomy was there, science or not. After all, Tomy had for a few weeks lived among us, and that was enough for plenty of interpersonal relationships. God knows that von Däniken was not the only one who had known Tomy; others could see him, as well. Now, after nineteen years of silence, von Däniken has decided to make public the incredible story of Tomy.

Here, the bestselling author of Chariots of the Gods makes his foray into the world of fiction. Tomy and the Planet of Lies is a thrilling adventure novel that will keep listeners on the edge of their seats.

Greek: Έριχ φον Νταίνικεν

Erich Anton Paul von Däniken (1935–2026) was a Swiss author of several pseudoscientific books which made claims about extraterrestrial influences on early human culture, including the best-selling Chariots of the Gods?, published in 1968. Däniken was one of the main figures responsible for popularizing the "paleo-contact" and ancient astronauts hypotheses.

The ideas put forth in his books are rejected by virtually all scientists and academics, who categorize his work as pseudohistory, pseudoarchaeology, and pseudoscience. Early in his career, he was convicted and served time for several counts of fraud or embezzlement, and wrote one of his books in prison.

This is the first work of fiction from the godfather of ancient astronauts, Erich von Daniken - and it quite possibly should be his last! Von Daniken came to fame in the late 1960's with his "Chariots Of The Gods" and over the course of the next approximately 40 years cranked out a large number of books explaining his theory and offering proof that we had been visited by extraterrestrials in the far, far distant past. Then, it was like he had offered up everything he had to say. So, in 2012, just to prove to his followers he hadn't been abducted by an ET, he came up with this piece of fiction - a mystery more than anything else, wrapped in sci-fi, and full of his theories as well - all in 220 pages!

Overall, this is a cute, charming little book wherein he first meets this ET - an energy form which materializes to him in the desert in the form of a 22-year-old von Daniken. His purpose? To learn about us since he is part of a greater collective wherein all these individual energy forms share what they know and have learned. To make things even more fun, the ET, whom he has called Tomy, has the ability to shift from body to body and learn things from everyone. One thing he learns quickly is that this is a planet of liars, hence the title.

Reads fast and is a fun read. If you want to learn more about von Daniken's theories, read his other books, starting with the original. Or, you can always watch Ancient Aliens on The History Channel on TV.

Excellent book, labelled as fiction but it seems to be a real event. The book reports on an alledged ET that materiallize in using a younger Van Daniken's as blue print, thus Van Daniken hanged with a double of himself 30 years younger.

The book describes a fascinating event in the life of Erich von Däniken. It is well written. I couldn't put the book down and read it in two nights.

I love Erich von Daniken's work and was excited to read this book of fiction by him. I guess the problem may be that I don't want it to be fiction. When I read fiction, I need it to still be believable by my imagination just ever so slightly. The story doesn't give me that feeling and therefore doesn't hook me and keep me reading. I will try to hang with it and see what happens.
I would think that an author who wants to convince the world that aliens are real, would make his story more convincing. I will come back and edit if I make it to the end.
