I was born in Yorkshire, England, the son of a coalminer. My love of words was fostered initially by reading comics, and I went on from that to read voraciously, enjoying novels, poems and plays from all eras and cultures. I have done a variety of jobs - steelworks labourer, hotel pot washer, grape-picker, postman, pneumatic drill operator, gardener and trainee teacher to name a few.
"I'll Be Watching You" is my first novel, and I wanted to write a story showing how much the internet has opened us all up to scrutiny often without our knowledge and against our wishes. It is a story of infatuation and obsession, focussing on the lives of two families over 25 years; I hope I have created something with universal appeal, but you can be the judge of that

The further I read into this book, the more I was hooked. The plot reminded me of The Great Gatsby, a yearning for the unattainable.
