Published in 1983, this book is intriguing from a historical perspective for anyone interested in the revolutionary work of Dr. Marsha Linehan. For readers familiar with her later work, this social-skills self-help book reads as a rudimentary version of part of what would later become the groundbreaking treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder, Dialectical Behavior Therapy. This book is not directly about BPD or DBT; it does not mention anything about BPD and it predates the publication of her DBT textbook and workbook by a decade. However, it does seem like an early version of the social-skills training part of DBT therapy, like a glimpse of Dr. Linehan still working out the details of her therapy, hence the historical relevance.
