Strangers, Kitty and Simon inherit a run-down house and lands in the middle of Ireland. At a time of transition all round, the house discloses unsettling secrets. With his friend Josh's underworld contacts, Simon double-crosses Kitty and when Kitty becomes involved, the three are caught in a life of deception played out against the beginnings of the Celtic Tiger.
A clever and compassionate story set in Ireland, with a wonderful cast of characters not least the old house inherited by Kitty and Simon. Pat Jourdan's short stories are marvellous, and so is this novel, parts of which reminded me of Molly Keane at her best.
