Encyclopedia of directors. Focuses on golden age, canonical directors and not very comprehensive of contemporary ones. The criticism is often weak, with little guidance on what are the most important films in vast filmographies.

توثيق لبروفايلات حوالي 150 مخرج ياباني، بمقدمه مختصرة عن مسيرة كل مخرج وحصر بكل أفلامه لحد سنة 2007 .. قريته باستعجال شديد لإني كنت عايز أطلع منه معلومات محددة وناوي أرجعله تاني على مهلي ويمكن ده اللي آثر على انطباعي عنه، الكتاب في المجمل مهتم يعرفك بأكبر قدر من المخرجين "المهمين" أكتر ما هو مهتم يكلمك عنهم وده بيخليه مصدر مهم للبحث خصوصاً إن في معلومات مش موجودة على الانترنت أو موجودة بصورة غلط، لكن بعيد عن المعلومات المباشرة فالتحليل اللي بيحاول يقدمه لمسيرة المخرجين بيبقى في أوقات كتير مش أكتر من كلام سطحي، أو نتايج مش موضح هو واصلها إزاي والترتيب الأبجدي للمخرجين في الكتاب خلى المعلومات متكدسة بطريقة رتيبة جداً من غير أي محاولة لربطها ببعض وده خلاني اتلغبط كتير وأنا بحاول افتكر "هو المخرج ده كان مين ولا عمل إيه؟"
