Stumbled across this book at the library and felt it was meant to be. I last heard a little bit about the composer when reading Stefan Zweig's "The World of Yesterday" and I'm generally interested in the time period when he lived, and in classical music. There was a little more detail about each work in the composer's oeuvre than I was interested in, but there were interesting photos, and I enjoyed reading about how life events and travel influenced Strauss's work. I also listened to some of the compositions and it made the reading more interesting. And I looked up the difference between the Strausses, which was enlightening.
