Morgan Brunhilde lives on the fringe of society, outcast because she prefers the company of Governed Intelligences to human beings. When a stranger called Tsukahara asks Morgan to help him find a Governed IQ that has gone missing, a Mind, he says, of unlimited intelligence, Morgan agrees on the condition she gets access to the Intelligence once they recover it.
But when Morgan realizes what the existence of an ungoverned Mind actually means, she must decide whether she can trust Tsukahara enough to keep his side of the bargain, or run the risk of losing everything in an effort to win the greatest of prizes.
Books catch my attention for lots of reasons: Cover, jacket blurb, character names, even my mood.
Though the cover seemed a bit odd for the jacket blurb, I was in the mood for a different kind of story and decided to give Tsukahara's Ghost a try. I'm so glad I did!
Sci-fi, techno, cyberpunk thrillers aren't usually my favorite reading genre. Things get too complicated and trying to figure out how everything works kills the fun and mystery for me.
Not so here. Mr. Bruce integrated enough new technology with a well-explained description so even I understood what everything meant. Morgan, Tsukahara and Rei's characters showed depth and believable emotional reactions. The plot unfolded in this highly, creative world where the implausible becomes plausible and reality is merely an enhanced perspective.
I look forward to reading more of Mr. Bruce's work!
