A solid introduction to mathematical analysis of social networks. Leaves fairly untouched questions of statistical analysis (there's one chapter at the end) or how to analyze larger networks. Useful as a primer about terminology and how to think about social networks.
Appropriate for undergraduate courses or self-learners without any prior knowledge of analyzing social networks. A distinctive feature is that each concept and technique is linked to the easy-to-use Ucinet software package for social network analysis. In many ways, this book is a companion to Ucinet. Note, however, that Ucinet's creators have their own companion book out since 2013, Analyzing Social Networks. Another distinctive feature of the earlier book by Hanneman is that it is available as freeware.
