This was an easy to read compilation of short murder/mystery stories by various authors.

Any collection of short stories from a group of different authors is likely to be a mixed bag as far as quality is concerned, and this one is no different. While this one does waver in quality, it is overall still really good, and the least of this collection is still quite enjoyable. The settings range from rural to big cities, the characters range from arch-typical southern rednecks to big city sophisticates. Almost all of them seem to convey a sense of heat & humidity and plenty of Spanish moss hanging from tree limbs and telephone wires. The inclusion of 'The Gold Bug' by Edgar Allen Poe was a nice touch.
