Young children learn the delightful and not so delightful aspects of smell in this humurous introduction to the sense of smell
I smell . . . . . . fish . . . lemons . . . a scent trail a few days old
What's the best smell in the world? What smells awful? How do insects smell? Young children learn the answers to these question and begin to understand the world of smell.
Patrick George's "I Smell..." is definitely a picture book worthy of a 2014 Caldecott medal. I selected this book because of its cleverly done illustrations. "I Smell..." is a book that would be fun for both a personal or group read. Children would find this book enjoyable because they can relate each smell to objects in everyday life. Each illustration depicts a smell and incorporates a drawing of a nose that coincides with what is being smelled. The cover is a good example of how George does this with each page. Not only is this book fun but it raises children's awareness to there sense of smell. On certain pages there is a clear page that can be used for both pages, which I think could be very engaging for young readers. Overall I rated this book 5 stars, and I would recommend its use in young classrooms.
