It is becoming more clear that the main purpose of trafficking in human beings is exploitation, whether or not for sexual purposes. In an effort to combat this exploitation at a global level, particularly amongst children, this material was prepared for an international seminar held December 2002 directed at exchanging information about the best practices in protection of victims. The materials include case studies of how the international Trafficking Protocol is applied, a survey of victim and witness protection in the EU, and legislative proposals on granting short-term permits of stay from witnesses and victims to provide residences and work for them and to allow them to better aid prosecution of perpetrators.
