Cryptids

Rate this book
Cryptids are creatures that have been un-described by scientific consensus and exist only as urban myths of times forgotten. The existence of Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster & the El Chupacabra, all famous examples of such majestic creatures, have been deemed child’s play… or are they? A big secret is about to unfold.

Join and immerse yourself in the lives of three undervalued teenagers in Bexhill-On-Sea, England who have had their fair share of hard times growing up. Resourceful and cunning Andrew Canis is the only child of an alcoholic-abusive father who stumbles upon a shocking family secret that allows him to put his guilty father behind bars, shy Sara Leo is the un-loved saviour child who constantly lives in the shadow of her cancer-riddled sister and reclusive pastor-son Robert Avery has been abandoned by both his adopted parents, an act that makes him question God’s existence. They yearn for a better life, when they learn that Robert’s estranged biological parents reside in Paris, they collectively plan to run away together and leave their miserable dead-end lives behind. The trio of misfits couldn’t be more different. The one thing they all have in common is spirit. Oh, and they can each morph into one animal. Andrew is the wolf, Sara the leopard and Robert the eagle. For evolution-obsessed Andrew, this is a dream come true.

Taking this in their stride with empty wallets and big dreams, they set sail across the Channel in the brig of a drug dealer’s boat, thus introducing them to the big bad world. Their money is stolen and they are forced to walk to Paris on foot. This unconventional manner of travel brings them closer together than ever before. Along the way, they are framed for arson; meet interesting travellers and animals with strange powers that join them on their journey of acceptance and self-discovery. Whilst exploring their animal alter-egos in the freedom of the wilderness; the question that lies heavily on their minds is: where do we come from, and how could we possibly be able to do what we do, and for Andrew – how have I evolved to be two species at once?

Unfortunately, they’re not the only ones interested in evolution. Rumour has it that multi-scale biological corporation Fiendsyl have discovered new ways of splicing human and animal genes together – and they are keen to capture anyone who displays any kind of animalistic qualities, and that includes the runaway trio. Fiendsyl’s pharmaceutical ascension is merely a front; as tortured CIA agent Genie Anthera soon discovers when she investigates claims made against the company’s squeaky clean track record. As she digs deeper and deeper into the mystery, she uncovers the secret of cryptids and the natural power that they hold. Some can produce clean water; others can breathe fire and some exercise advanced psychic abilities. It’s no wonder they are coveted by many, in the wrong hands they wield dangerous power.

Other people around the world are soon dragged into this messy mix of lies, deceit and murder. Smart-alec journalist Ava Denters investigates Fiendsyl and its undercover mob, The Hidden Gang, who steal cryptids from others. Ava’s ethical twin-brother and cultural anthropologist James Denters monitors her every move in the hopes of catching the criminals who are abusing these sacred creatures. James hopes to hand them over to the cryptid-friendly organisation, whose trademark symbols are a wolf, a leopard and an eagle; three animals that are considered sacrosanct in cryptid circles. Fleet-footed and inquisitive Xander Prime, a budding cryptozoologist, searches for the famous mythical creatures and vies to prove their existence to the public – a move that could prove disastrous.
