This collection of St. George stories was much like strolling a beach searching for impressive shells or like rock hounding, now and again finding something semi-precious -- relaxing and enjoyable, and at times educational and very rewarding. Some stories were repetitive, but I am grateful for what I learned -- including of two more books already added to my list of books to read: a second one by Lyman Hafen and one by Maurine Whipple. Hafen's life, lived entirely in St. George, was the kind of life in the kind of place that I have always fondly dreamed of, but I feebly sought material rewards first. Still, my lifetime of personal experiences and interests in St. George made the book quite special to me.
This author has an easy flowing style. The book is made up of short easy to read chapters about growing up and living in St. George Utah. The stories are timeless. The descriptions accurate. I didn't want the book to end. It was fun to read. I just moved here and wanted to know more about the people and the history. this book did not disappoint.
I didn't actually get to finish this before it was due at the library, but it was really good and I learned a lot about the history of St. George, UT. I think I will buy this book.
