This delightful yet serious book will clear lots of cobwebs from our mind's eye and smash our false gods in the process, as it delivers some thought-provoking material with an often lighthearted touch, reminding everyone that we're only human and imperfect--but we don't have to remain stupid. A clever book, but parts of it were too cutesy for my taste. God is a "living Spirit." I did like the comments about God not being oppressive. "Sometimes a religion can get in the way of God." p. 88 and religious tolerance "once we dump religious divisiveness in the garbage where it belongs." p. 93. However I question certain characterizations of God that he asserts: 1. "only monotheism," 2. God as all powerful, and 3. God as creator yet Man has free will. The old theodicy problem is still not dealt with in any kind of complete fashion.
Is it bad that I liked the Stupid Ways better than the Smart Ways? The characterization of misconceptions was much funnier, but the Smart Ways were a lot more faith-affirming. Either way it was a fun little read.
