This is a pleasant book with reports of Christmases going back hundreds of years. It also has extracts from Jilly Cooper and Laurie Lee. It has no index so you don't know what you're getting next but I rather liked that!
A delightful collection of Cotswold based stories and reminiscences of Christmas past from the 12th to the 20th century. What is interesting is the two examples of writers complaining that Christmas has lost its true meaning-dated 1877 and the early years of the last century! I particularly liked the background to the story of the Tailor of Gloucester and a 12th century bishop's festival feast which takes excess to the extreme.
