Henk Blanken (1959), bekroond met Het Gouden Pennetje en de Tegel, schreef voor Het Vrije Volk, de Volkskrant en Dagblad van het Noorden. Voor Carels hoofd, over een parkinsonpatiënt die een hersenoperatie ondergaat terwijl hij bij kennis blijft, werd hij ook Europees gelauwerd. Bij Atlas Contact publiceerde hij drie boeken over journalistiek. In Handboek verhalende journalistiek (2014) pleit hij met coauteur Wim de Jong voor de kunst van het vertellen en reportages die dwingend zijn als fictie, maar wel waargebeurd. In oktober 2015 verscheen Pistoolvinger. Parkinson en de schoonheid van het verval. Pistoolvinger is inmidels ook in Duitse vertaling verschenen onder de titel Da stirbst du nicht dran.
