From planning a makeover to tackling the nuts-and-bolts of each project, Popular Mechanics provides three appealing ways to create your dream kitchen. See what amazing transformations are possible on economy, mid-range, and high end budgets, either to duplicate exactly or use as inspiration. Best of all, this is real-world advice on a real-world kitchen used by a family of four—not staged beauty shots, but an actual renovation that’s followed from start to finish. All the fundamentals are shown, in a variety of styles, along with remedies for such common problems as lack of counter space; the essentials of electricity, plumbing, and ventilation; and the “work flow and traffic patterns” of different layouts.
Although I'm not planning on doing any of the work myself (I am NOT handy that way), this book gave me a lot of excellent information about kitchen makeovers. It gave comparisons of products and will help me talk intelligently with my contractor. Great reference for anyone planning on redoing their kitchen whether they are doing the work themselves or hiring a contractor.
